Business Manager - VPS Emsys Maritime

We are looking for an experienced and driven Business Manager to lead our VPS Emsys Maritime organisation (approximately 15 FTE). VPS Emsys Maritime is a leading manufacturer of ship and maritime exhaust gas emissions measurement systems. VPS acquired Emsys Maritime Ltd. in 2023 which is now part of the VPS Digital division. VPS is the world’s leading marine fuel and lubricants testing and analysis company and a pioneer in its field for creating innovative, sustainable solutions to the shipping industry.

We are experiencing strong growth, with a forward order book extending well into the next decade. We currently provide highly accurate measurement systems to some of the world’s largest shipyards. We are excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced Business Manager to lead VPS Emsys Maritime, overseeing the continued success and development of the business.

As exclusive suppliers to marine and offshore industries, our highly experienced team have market-leading expertise in the design, installation, commissioning, and through-life support of marine emissions monitoring systems (EMS).

THE OPPORTUNITY

You will lead the Emsys organisation (±15 fte) and take full responsibility for its overall performance and strategic direction. In this role, you will be accountable for the end-to-end management of the business, ensuring operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and sustainable growth in a technically complex and highly regulated environment.

  • Drive the execution of the business strategy, translating organisational objectives into clear priorities, strong performance, and measurable results
  • Play a key role in shaping the future of Emsys by aligning people, processes, and technology with the company’s ambitions and strengthening its position in the marine emissions monitoring industry

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead and develop the VPS Emsys organisation, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Define and execute the technical business strategy, ensuring alignment with overall company goals
  • Take full P&L cost responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance
  • Ensure successful delivery of projects and products, meeting customer expectations in terms of quality, timelines, and cost
  • Strengthen customer relationships and drive high levels of customer satisfaction across all touchpoints
  • Oversee operational excellence across the value chain, including supply chain, manufacturing, and after-sales support
  • Drive innovation and continuous development of products and services in line with market and regulatory developments
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant quality, safety, and environmental standards, including ISO and industry-specific regulations
  • Build and maintain strong external relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders
  • Lead, coach, and develop the leadership team, ensuring succession planning and talent development
  • Collaborate closely with group-level stakeholders and other business units to drive synergies and growth

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role with full business responsibility
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen (P&L ownership)
  • Strong organisational, operational, and leadership capabilities, with the ability to manage complex technical businesses and drive performance through others.
  • A strong engineering background within the maritime industry (must have).
  • Proven experience in leading organisational change and business transformation.
  • Proven track record of driving operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within a technical manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical understanding of marine emissions monitoring systems or related maritime technologies.
  • Strong strategic leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align teams and drive business performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement practical solutions that enhance customer satisfaction and business performance.
  • A strong drive for innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
