Buyer

🛒 Buyer – permanently onsite (Werner UK, Burton Upon Trent)

Salary & Terms: £38,000 – £40,000 per annum (DOE) Full-time (37.5 hours/week)

The Role

You’ll play a pivotal part in sourcing, selecting, and procuring goods/services while ensuring seamless material availability. This is a key buying role demanding strong negotiation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.


Responsibilities

Core Duties (Essential)

  • Sourcing & Selection Research and vet suppliers, manufacturers, and wholesalers for reliability and competitiveness.
  • Contract Negotiation Master price, volume, delivery timelines, solvent consolidation, and exclusivity deals to drive ROI.
  • Supplier Relations Assess performance, quality compliance, and maintain contracts via JDE/MRP systems.
  • Inventory & Order Management Process purchase orders (POs), update stock databases, and track deliveries.
  • Demand Forecasting & Trend Analysis Review sales data and predict industry/customer trends to optimise stock levels.
  • Quality & QA Ensuring Validate supplier reliability, inspect stock quality, and resolve billing/shipping issues.
  • Cross-Department Coordination Collaborate with production, logistics, finance, and operations teams to streamline projects.
  • Ad-hoc Tasks Tackle ongoing operational challenges as needed.

Requirements & Skills

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience with MRP systems (prior JDE EDI/JDE NexTrex knowledge is a huge plus).
  • Manufacturing/FMCG background highly sought-after.
  • Contract negotiation and bulk sourcing experience essential.
  • Fluency in MS Office/Excel (advanced modelling/analysis skills preferred).
  • Proven cost-saving track record via supplier consolidation.
  • CIPS or chartered procurement certification advantageous.
  • Ability to read technical drawings (finisher).
