Materials Buyer – Permanent Role (Kent-based Head Office)
About the Company
A highly respected refurbishment contractor, with nearly a century of expertise, is seeking an experienced Materials Buyer for their Kent-based head office on a permanent basis.
The company specialises in delivering high-quality refurbishment, restoration and fit-out projects across residential, commercial, educational, and public sector environments. Renowned for its commitment to quality, safety, and long-term client relationships, it collaborates closely with consultants, local authorities, architects, and commercial clients.
With continued growth and a strong pipeline of new projects, this role offers an exciting opportunity for a commercial-minded Materials Buyer to join their established team.
Your New Role
As Materials Buyer, you will be responsible for procuring materials for multiple refurbishment and construction projects, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and timely sourcing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing supplier relationships to maintain exceptional service levels.
- Negotiating prices, rebates, and purchasing agreements to achieve best value.
- Monitoring supplier lead times to ensure compliance with project programmes.
- Raising accurate purchase orders and maintaining procurement records.
- Resolving supply chain issues and implementing process improvements.
- Ensuring supplier performance meets agreed service levels.
- Processing and allocating invoices collaboratively with operational and commercial teams.
- Organising timely and cost-effective deliveries to site.
- Supporting multiple live projects and adapting to changing requirements.

Required Experience & Skills
Candidates must have:
- Extensive experience as a Buyer, Materials Buyer, or Procurement Specialist.
- Strong negotiation skills, supplier management, and cost control abilities.
- Proven construction industry experience, preferably in a main contractor environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT systems.
- A proactive, organised, and team-driven mindset.
