Buyer – Construction

Location: Southend

Salary: £35,000–£55,000 (depending on experience)
Job Type: Permanent (Temp-to-Perm also considered)

Are you an experienced Construction Buyer looking for your next opportunity?
Actaris Site Services is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Buyer to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a well-established business where you'll play a key role in supporting project delivery and procurement.

Our client is eager to appoint someone as soon as possible, but is also open to waiting for the right candidate. A temporary-to-permanent arrangement will also be considered.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary of £35,000–£55,000, depending on experience.
  • Monday to Thursday: 8:00am – 5:30pm
  • Friday: 8:00am – 1:00pm
  • 20 days annual leave (Fridays count as half days), plus Christmas shutdown and Bank Holidays.

The Role

As Buyer, you will be responsible for ensuring materials are procured efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with project requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Placing purchase orders in line with project programmes and procurement strategies.
  • Managing procurement budgets against tender allowances.
  • Maintaining procurement documentation, including material schedules, delivery schedules and live hire reports.
  • Supporting the pre-construction team with supplier pricing and tender enquiries.
  • Managing supplier invoice queries and resolving discrepancies.
  • Monitoring stock levels and maximising the use of existing materials across projects.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to achieve the best value and service.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 5 years' experience in a purchasing or procurement role within the construction industry.
  • Experience procuring construction materials, ideally with knowledge of roofing, cladding, windows and doors.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
  • Experience producing material take-offs.
  • Strong commercial awareness and excellent organisational skills.
  • CIPS qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence, with the flexibility to attend site visits when required.
