Buyer 6 Month FTC | Southend | Immediate Start

£40,000 – £45,000

We are seeking an experienced Buyer to join a well-established organisation on an initial six-month fixed-term contract. This is a hands-on role focused on managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, and ensuring the business receives the best value across a range of goods and services.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, you'll play a key role in maintaining supply continuity, improving commercial terms, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs while supporting day-to-day operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier relationships, ensuring quality, service and cost expectations are consistently met
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules and commercial agreements to achieve the best overall value
  • Source products and services from existing and new suppliers as required
  • Review current supplier arrangements and identify opportunities for cost savings and improved performance
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations, comparing suppliers to support informed purchasing decisions
  • Monitor supplier performance and address any service, quality or delivery issues
  • Conduct market research to benchmark pricing and identify alternative sourcing options
  • Work closely with internal teams to understand purchasing requirements and support operational demands
  • Maintain accurate supplier, purchasing and contract records
  • Contribute to wider cost reduction and supplier improvement initiatives

About You

  • Previous experience in a Buyer, Senior Buyer, Purchasing Officer or Procurement role
  • Strong negotiation skills with the confidence to challenge suppliers and secure favourable outcomes
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective supplier relationships
  • Commercially aware, with a good understanding of cost management and value-driven purchasing decisions
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence working with supplier and pricing data
  • Organised and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach
