Buyer – Portfolio Management (Fixed Term Contract)
The post holder will be responsible for planning, organising, scheduling, and purchasing a portfolio of parts from approved suppliers in accordance with established procedures to ensure consistency of supply whilst managing inventory levels. They will build strong collaborative relationships with specified suppliers and deliver consistent performance on delivery and quality.
Hours of Work: Mon-Thurs 07:30–16:00 & Fri 07:30–13:30.
Fixed-Term Contract: 9–12 months (covering maternity leave).
Responsibilities
- Build and develop strong, long-lasting collaborative relationships with suppliers
- Implement a proactive approach and maintain effective communication with key internal stakeholders
- Organise and schedule parts and materials from a global supply chain to satisfy customer demand in line with the business delivery plan
- Manage order book effectively with assigned suppliers, ensuring communication adheres to agreed procedures
- Expedite purchased parts as needed to support production requirements
- Liaise with Quality to resolve supplier rejections promptly
- Manage goods sent for rework through agreed company processes
- Track and monitor daily and weekly key performance indicators (KPIs) for assigned suppliers and the Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) system
- Monitor supplier performance and escalate non-conformances to the material planning team lead
- Liaise with category managers to ensure cancellations are actioned and closed appropriately while communicating performance
- Hold regular review meetings with suppliers to maintain alignment
- Undertake additional tasks as necessary to support the operational purchasing department
- Assist team members by covering ad hoc demands or addressing arrears in other categories
- Ensure all work complies with company procedures

Requirements
Essential:
- Previous experience in a Buyer role
- Experience liaising with suppliers
- Knowledge of MRP systems
- Excellent IT skills
- Educated to GCSE Level, Grades A–C, or equivalent (including Maths & English)*
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Teamwork & Collaboration mindset
- Resilience and adaptability
- Accountability and responsibility
- Customer-focused attitude (internal & external)
Desirable:
- 3+ years’ experience in a Buyer role within Engineering or Aerospace
- HND or ILM qualification
- A third-level (degree-level) qualification in supply chain management, procurement, or a related discipline
