As a Buyer at the Babcock Technology Centre near Bristol, you’ll contribute to mission-critical defence, aerospace, and engineering programmes. Your role ensures the right equipment, services, and technologies reach where they’re needed most, supporting national security, cutting-edge capabilities, and strategic engineering projects.

Responsibilities

As a Buyer, you’ll manage procurement activities with full ownership of:

  • End-to-end procurement processes, from supplier sourcing to contract completion
  • Preparing and issuing requests for quotation (RFQs), and assessing supplier responses to recommend cost-effective, high-value options
  • Developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships, including key contact engagements and site visits
  • Issuing and tracking purchase orders, while ensuring accurate supply chain data and reporting
  • Supporting the procurement strategy, identifying opportunities to optimise value, cost, and performance for defence programmes

This role offers a premium work arrangement of 37 hours per week, balancing onsite collaboration and remote flexibility.


Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Proven track record as a procurement, purchase, or supply chain professional
  • Hands-on experience working within defence, manufacturing, engineering, or a compatible technical sector
  • Proficient at managing supplier relationships and full procurement cycles (from sourcing to ordering)
  • Strong interpersonal skills for kpisStakeholder communication with internal teams and external suppliers
  • Ability to organise workloads and operate effectively independently in fast-paced environments

Qualifications

  • Commitment to achieving membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, CIPS Level 4+ or an equivalent business-related qualification)

  • Must hold—or be able to achieve—Security Check (SC) clearance. Role eligibility is subject to UK vetting policies, including citizenship, residency, or birthplace considerations.
