C++ Developer
C++ Developer (Remote-First, United Kingdom)
The Opportunity This position is with a partner company managing all applications and next steps. They are seeking a C++ Developer to join a collaborative, distributed engineering team, contributing to high-performance backend solutions for genomic analysis and precision healthcare technologies.
At this role, you’ll:
- Develop scalable applications for processing complex genetic data
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across software engineering, bioinformatics, and product development
- Own end-to-end technical projects, from design through deployment
- Optimise performance, scalability, reliability, and availability in large-scale systems

About the Role
Joining as a C++ Developer, you will be integral to building the next generation of high-performance backends that support genomic pipelines and precision medicine.
Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance C++ backend applications and core libraries for genomic data processing.
- Write clean, reusable, well-tested C++ code, using modern practices and comprehensive testing frameworks (unit & regression).
- Take full technical ownership of projects, from architecture design to deployment.
- Optimise application performance, ensuring scalability and reliability for large-scale data processing.
- Maintain and enhance specialised annotation tools and genomic databases, ensuring they meet rigorous workload demands.
- Create and maintain technical documentation covering architecture, implementation, and best practices.
- Engage in code reviews, mentorship, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with backend engineers, bioinformaticians, and product stakeholders to deliver robust systems.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience developing backend applications in C++, preferably using C++17 or later.
- Deep knowledge of templates, STL containers, smart pointers, multithreading, and memory management.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, including query optimization and schema design.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud architectures, and large-scale data processing.
- Experience with agile methodologies, including code reviews and collaborative teamwork.
- Excellent English communication skills (written/verbal) required.
Desired
- Experience with Redis, gRPC, or similar technologies.
- A background or passion for bioinformatics, or a keen interest in genomics/precision medicine.
- Familiarity with scalable computing frameworks or APIs.
