C++ Developer
C++ Developer – Healthcare & Genomics (United Kingdom)
A partner company — managing applications and next steps — is seeking a C++ Developer based in the United Kingdom.
As a C++ Developer, you’ll develop high-performance backend solutions supporting cutting-edge genomic analysis and precision healthcare technologies. Working within a collaborative, distributed engineering team, you’ll design scalable systems for processing complex genetic data while upholding quality, reliability, and performance standards.
This role allows you to:

About the Role
- Location: United Kingdom (remote-flexible arrangement expected)
- Focus: Backend C++ development for genomics, bioinformatics, and precision healthcare solutions
- Environment: Agile, collaborative, and multidisciplinary
- Impact: Work on technologies influencing scientific research and clinical innovation
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance high-performance C++ backend applications and core libraries for genomic data processing
- Write clean, reusable, well-tested, and efficient code, backed by comprehensive unit and regression testing
- Take end-to-end ownership of technical projects, from design and implementation to testing and deployment
- Optimise performance, scalability, reliability, and availability for large-scale data processing
- Maintain and improve internal annotation tools and specialised genomic databases
- Produce clear technical documentation, including software architecture, implementation details, and development processes
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with backend engineers, bioinformaticians, and product stakeholders to deliver scalable, robust solutions

Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- At least 3 years’ professional experience developing backend applications with modern C++ (C++17 or newer preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Templates, STL containers, smart pointers
- Multithreading and memory management best practices
- Object-oriented design principles
- Experience with:
- Relational database query optimisation and schema design
- Distributed cloud-based systems and large-scale data processing
- Agile software development (including code reviews)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Adaptable, collaborative mindset, with flexibility to contribute across technical areas

- Redis, gRPC, or similar technologies
