About the Role

Join Arcadis as a Sustainability and Infrastructure Consulting Civils Engineer with a specialist focus on high voltage (HV) cable design.

You will work across the entire life cycle of cable systems, influencing design, construction, operations, and decommissioning. This crucial responsibility requires analytical rigour, technical expertise, cultural understanding, and clear communication — and you must be an independent thinker who can apply your experience to real-world challenges.

Role Accountabilities

  • Create detailed design deliverables for packages of work, including:
    • Technical specifications for HV cable systems designs
    • Contractual documentation
  • Undertake design analysis, review, and approval of others’ work to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Perform concept and/or detailed design for cable system projects from:
    • Concept stage → Design → Construction → Operational maintenance → End-of-life works
  • Resolve technical problems, provide solutions, advise clients and stakeholders on implementation
  • Manage deliverables against timescales and budgets
  • Develop personal and company profiles within the client base and industry
  • Support project delivery teams from a technical perspective
  • Ensure designs are safe, constructible, and compliant with CDM inclusion principles
  • Foster design and deliverable innovation, delivering value to both the company and clients
  • Lead teams by example, providing:
    • Clear direction
    • Supportive guidance
    • Expert technical advice

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • AC cable system development, design, manufacture, installation, testing, and commissioning
    • Experience across voltage ranges from 11kV to 400kV
    • HVDC cable systems in design, installation, and maintenance
    • Subsea cable systems, including:
      • Export cables
      • Inter-array connections
    • Cable system design, including:
      • Manufacture processes
      • Route surveying and evaluation
      • Mechanical protection systems
      • Installation methodologies
  • Good working knowledge of:
    • CYMCAP and related cable design and CAD packages
  • Chartered MIET membership or ability to progress towards this qualification
  • Solid understanding of:
    • UK HSE legislation
    • Risk and CDM management principles
  • Ability to travel to clients’ sites and offices as required.
