Cable Routing Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Cable Routing Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role will be responsible for the design, coordination and optimisation of cable routing solutions across a range of projects, ensuring compliance with technical standards and project requirements.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, efficient and cost-effective cable routing designs that support safe and reliable operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop cable routing layouts and detailed designs in line with project specifications and industry standards
- Produce and review cable routing drawings, including tray layouts, ladder systems and conduit runs
- Ensure all routing designs consider installation feasibility, maintainability and health & safety requirements
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and project engineering teams to integrate routing solutions
- Carry out cable segregation studies and ensure compliance with relevant standards and best practice
- Support the preparation of material take-offs and input into procurement processes
- Resolve technical queries and provide design support throughout the project lifecycle
- Attend design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate documentation and revision control of engineering deliverables
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical background alongside excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
Essential:
- Experience in cable routing, layout design or a similar electrical engineering function
- Familiarity with cable containment systems (tray, ladder, trunking, conduit, etc.)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and standards
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN or similar)
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively within a team

Desirable:
- Experience within power generation, energy, oil & gas or industrial sectors
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. BS, IEC or equivalent)
- Understanding of cable sizing, routing optimisation and installation constraints
- HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
