CAD Engineer

Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers. An exciting opportunity is available for a CAD Engineer to join our team.

Reporting to the Product Development Engineering Manager, the CAD Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of products to meet customer expectations and comply with all relevant specifications and standards. This role is critical in ensuring that designs consider safety, cost, manufacturability, and through-life support across a mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering environment.

We’re looking for an experienced CAD Engineer who can take a holistic approach to product design and development. At CEUK, you will work as part of a diverse team, collaborating to develop and maintain market-leading products within the explosives industry. With safety, innovation, and engineering excellence at the core, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality technical solutions.

If you’re technically strong, detail-focused, and proactive in solving engineering challenges, this position gives you the opportunity to make a real impact.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:

  • Ensure all activities are carried out in full compliance with H&SE legislation, company policies, and procedures, including reporting unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Produce designs, 3D models, simulations, FEA, and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Develop and assess design solutions using appropriate modelling techniques and engineering calculations.
  • Prototype and evaluate designs using external suppliers and/or in-house 3D printing capability.
  • Support product development as well as tooling, jigs, and fixture design.
  • Liaise closely with R&D, Product Support Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
  • Create and maintain design documentation including specifications, calculations, models, and technical reports.
  • Provide validated data to support the safe introduction of new products into manufacturing.
  • Maintain configuration control using PDM systems, SolidWorks Vault, and manual drawing records.
  • Support the design and execution of safe trials and testing activities.
  • Analyse technical data and produce conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry legislation and standards.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and third parties.
  • Support product development using systems engineering principles and gated review processes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
