Location: Customer’s site in Gaydon Department: Engineering Research and Development (ER&D)
At Tata Technologies, we transform product development ideas into reality by engineering the innovations that shape tomorrow’s automotive, aerospace, and industrial heavy machinery solutions for the world’s leading manufacturers. As an integral part of our fast-growing ER&D team, located on-site with our customer, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving CAD design, powertrain integration, and system validation while working with global teams.
About the Role
This CAD Leader – Powertrain position is critical to ensuring high-quality 3D modeling, packaging, and integration of powertrain components—including cooling, fuel, and gas path systems—throughout the full vehicle development lifecycle. You’ll work with cross-functional teams (BIW, chassis, thermal, NVH) to guarantee seamless system compatibility, performance, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead CAD design, packaging, and integration of vehicles and powertrain systems (cooling, fuel delivery, gas path components)
- Conduct package checks, clearance analyses, and interference validations to uphold vehicle-level standards
- Generate and enforce CAD standards, including level-of-detail (LoD) guidelines, quality control checks, and clearance reports
- Integrate powertrain systems with vehicle architecture (BIW, chassis, electrical, HVAC) while ensuring robust mechanical connections and failure modes
- Ensure adherence to vehicle packaging guidelines, TMGs, and OEM engineering requirements
- Perform benchmarking studies and recommend innovative, commercially feasible solutions
- Develop and execute feasibility assessments for zone layouts, installation concepts, and prototype configuration studies
- Review and validate 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings against technical specifications
- Oversee ECR/ECO (Engineering Change Request/Orde) management, ensuring updates align with vehicle timelines and deliverables
- Maintain BOM accuracy, weight tracking, andBill-of-Process (BoP) management
- Support prototype builds, vehicle trials, DFMEA, and launch readiness—bridging gaps between concept and commercial production
- Serve as the primary CAD interface between Tata Technologies’ teams and customer suppliers/OEMs (including legal stipulations if applicable)
- Mentor team members, foster technical governance, and coach junior engineers on best practices

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
