Job Description: Responsibilities
As a CAD Technician, you’ll join AECOM’s Water Team in Scotland, playing a critical role in infrastructure development on the SR27 Enterprise. You’ll contribute to connecting expert research, planning, and design with real-world execution through your engineering analysis, CAD modelling, and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
Technical Leadership & Accountability
- Work independently with an established understanding of civil engineering best practices, providing meaningful contributions to the design process
- Hold technical responsibility for major phases or project components, leading workflow coordination
- Manage modelling standards, digital workflows, and data delivery, supporting the CAD Lead in maintaining high efficiency and accuracy
Civil Engineering & CAD Expertise
- Provide Civil 3D modelling support to engineering teams, leveraging Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and document management systems
- Conduct data collection, correlation, and basic engineering calculations following robust and repeatable methods
- Support detailed or routine engineering tasks, including CAD documentation standards, asset modelling, and digital coordination

Integration & Collaboration
- Work closely with multi-disciplinary engineers during the iterative design process, ensuring alignment and feasibility
- Collaborate with construction teams and third-party stakeholders to finalise delivery solutions
- Offer internal technical knowledge-sharing and contribute to ongoing CAD workflow improvements

What We Look For: Key Requirements
Certified minimum qualification:
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent in an engineering discipline
Technical expertise (ideally in these areas):
- Civil Engineering Sciences & Practices: Designing civil infrastructure, specifications, fundamentals, and regulations OR equivalent exposure through training
- CAD & Modelling Knowledge: Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Preferable practical experience with 3D modelling software (such as ReCap, Revit). Support for collaboration and validation/coordination in Navisworks or similar programs is highly regarded
- Welcome to develop NoSQL and MySQL experience through exposure to Common Data Environments (CDE) (e.g., ProjectWise, Autodesk Construction Cloud)
Preferred working characteristics:
- Ability to document processes clearly, troubleshoot delivery challenges, and share knowledge across teams
- Commitment to continual improvement of CAD practises, technical skills, and digital tools
