About Us
AFECO is an engineering services provider, delivering high quality process and MEICA design and installation projects predominantly across the South of England and Midlands for the water industry. We have excellent inhouse engineering teams capable of delivering all stages of the project cycle, from concept through to commissioning, with a strong focus on process led innovative and robust yet appropriate solutions. We have a portfolio of varied projects covering both wastewater and clean water projects for planned and reactive projects.
Due to the expansion of our team, we are currently recruiting for a CAD Technician to work within our multi-disciplinary teams. This is a great opportunity for enthusiastic individuals who fit in with our company values and are keen to develop in a forward-thinking organisation.
Key Duties
- Prepare and develop design drawings and technical solutions at various stages of a project, supporting the Design Engineering team with all CAD activities related to civil design and survey information.
- Assist in the development of practical design solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Maintain effective communication with internal team members and external stakeholders to ensure strong collaboration and the timely delivery of work to programme deadlines.
- Work closely with other members of the design team to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of the overall project design.
- Support the resolution of technical issues and respond to CAD-related queries associated with assigned projects.
- Attend relevant engineering events and industry expos, keeping up to date with emerging technologies and best practices and helping to implement innovative solutions where appropriate.
- Follow company quality management procedures in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.
- Undertake survey reviews, data evaluation, and support the development of Pre-Construction Information (PCI) provided by the client.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior members of the team where appropriate.

Essential Skills
- Demonstrate ability in the use of 2D CAD software, such as the latest version of AutoCAD Lt.
- Be computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Be able to support quality, environmental, and information management procedures in line with ISO 9001, ISO 19650, and ISO 14001 standards.
- Have an understanding of water industry standards and guidance, such as CIWEM and CESWI.
- Possess a sound understanding of civil engineering design principles and terminology.
- Have knowledge of UK Water Industry and Sewer Sector Guidance standards relevant to drainage design.
Preferred Skills
- Have experience working with Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms and workflows, such as Autodesk Construction Cloud or BIM 360.
- Have practical knowledge and demonstrate proficiency in the use of 3D CAD software, such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Civils 3D.
- Be familiar with additional water industry standards, such as WIMES.
- Understand the integration of CAD designs with BIM models.
- Be familiar with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
- Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development, staying up to date with industry innovations and CAD software developments.
- Have knowledge or experience of HazOp and ALM processes.
