CAD Technician – Scottish Water SR27 Enterprise Programme
About the Role
Join a dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team in Scotland! Support a team of talented technicians and shape the future of the water industry as a CAD Technician in our rapidly growing Scottish offices (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, and Perth).
AECOM was recently named one of two Primary Designers for Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise—a £6 billion multi-year programme transforming Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027 to 2033 (with potential extension). You’ll receive hands-on experience delivering this high-impact work, driving sustainable design solutions, and helping Scotland reach net zero goals.
Work alongside a talented, diverse team with a hybrid flexible model to balance work and life. This opportunity is unparalleled, offering long-term, meaningful impact on Scottish infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work independently using established civil engineering knowledge and best practices to provide meaningful input to the design process.
- Technical accountability for a major phase or component of a project, leading workflow coordination with multiple engineering disciplines.
- Collaborate in the iterative design process, ensuring CAD models meet engineering and industry standards.
- Support the CAD Lead in maintaining CAD standards, best practices, and digital processes (modelling, content creation, advanced digital developments).
- Provide technical expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and document management systems.
- Gather, correlate, and analyse basic engineering data via well-defined methods.
- Take part in detailed or routine engineering assignments requiring calculations, data validation, and coordination.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
