CAD Technician – Water Team

About the Role
Join us on Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise programme, the largest transformation initiative in Scotland’s water industry history! As a CAD Technician, you’ll support multi-billion-pound infrastructure upgrades (2027–2033+) while contributing to ground-breaking design excellence—a chance to shape Scotland’s future.
Drawing on parliamentary and national award-winning best practice, AECOM will lead this transformative programme with our multidisciplinary Water team. Role includes:
- Hands-on support for the digital transformation of water infrastructure
- Influencing design standards, workflows, and sustainable solutions
- Collaboration with industry partners on net-zero-focused projects
Location: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, or Perth (Scottish offices) Work Model: Flexible hybrid arrangements with tailored options for diverse needs
Key Responsibilities
Core Accountability
- Work independently using established civil engineering best practices to provide meaningful input to the design process
- Assume leadership in coordinating complex project workflows, including technical phases or components, and reporting risks/challenges to senior stakeholders
Technical & CAD Work
- Operate as a Civil 3D modelling specialist to support extension project tools and engineering teams within a Common Data Environment (ProjectWise/Autodesk Construction Cloud)
- Proficiency in
- Autodesk AutoCAD Craft (including AutoCAD Map/3D, Toolsets, Positioning, Design Automation/Webtools)
- Civil 3D (advanced knowledge of extensions, scripts, custom applications, and RFP processes)
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools like Autodesk ReCap, Revit’s MEP, and model validation systems (Navisworks, Bluebeam)
- Document and revision control compliance with AECOM/standard industry and client procedures
- Perform detailed tests and calculations on engineering solutions while ensuring processes meet quality and governance standards

Process & Standards Support
- Champion AECOM’s CAD best practices, templates, and standards across standard configurations, tool approvals, model creation, and workflows in CE software utilities
- Bridge support for Engineers, consolidating technical requirements and translating into project-ready 3D models that comply with AECOM’s Quality Management Systems
Collaboration & Outcomes
- Multidisciplinary integrations with design leads, project teams, entrepreneurial stakeholders, and technical partners
- Continuously improving innovation in digital modelling, network analysis, and decision-making, aligning with Scottish Water’s net-zero ambitions

Requirements
Education & Certification
- Relevant minimum qualification:
- HNC (Higher National Certificate) or equivalent in a civil engineering, construction, surveying, geographic or related discipline
Technical Proficiency
- Essential skills: Confident AutoCAD and Civil 3D (extensibility via scripts, macros, User Developed Apps, and known UDA tool requirements) experience
- Differentiated capability: Experience building bespoke tool solutions that streamline repetitive tasks; advanced techniques in PoDB and BIM extension
Industry Experience
- Proven experience with Common Data Environments (ProjectWise or Autodesk Connected Construction)
- Hands-on familiarity with digital collaboration tools (Autodesk, Navisworks, Revit MEP) or similar, including version control system usage
Attitude
- Analytical & resilient: Enthusiasm for problem-solving with data/efficient automation
- Team player embracing innovation and continuous improvement
- Genuine connection to Scotland’s climate goals and desire to contribute meaningfully
