CAD Technician

CAD Technician – Tekla Structures Specialist

A well-established steel fabrication business based in Dewsbury is looking for a skilled CAD Technician with Tekla Structures experience to deliver high-quality steel fabrication projects. Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 + competitive benefits.


About the Role

This opportunity is *ideal for a strong Tekla Detailer with proven experience in structural and secondary steelwork. The successful candidate will create comprehensive Tekla models and fabrication/erection drawings, collaborating closely with clients, design teams, and shop floor personnel to ensure successful project delivery.

The level of responsibility, autonomy, and project ownership depends on the individual’s experience.


Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 (dependent on experience)
  • Company Pension Scheme (6% Employer Contribution)
  • Company-funded Healthcare Cashback Plan
  • 25 days holiday (increasing to 28 days with service) + 8 Bank Holidays
  • Death in Service Protection (1x Annual Salary)
  • 1:30 PM finish every Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Creation: Develop accurate Tekla Structures models for fabricated steel and secondary steelwork.
  • Drawing Production: Generate fabrication, erection, and general arrangement drawings meeting project requirements.
  • Technical Outputs: Produce material take-offs, CAM data, and CNC export files as needed.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with production teams, site personnel, engineers, and architects to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all models and deliverables comply with client specifications, industry standards, and company quality expectations.
  • Project Delivery Support: Meet agreed deadlines, track progress, and communicate effectively.
  • Troubleshooting & Adaptability: Execute modelling/drafting tasks efficiently and resolve routine or complex issues.
  • Team Collaboration: Assist design teams with advanced modelling tasks.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience using Tekla Structures in a structural steel/steelwork environment.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • UK steel fabrication principles
    • Connection detailing
    • Erection processes
  • Excellent communication to collaborate with engineers, fabricators, site teams, and clients.
  • Critical attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality output.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting project deadlines.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
