The Role
The CAD & Vehicle Packaging Engineer is responsible for developing high-quality 3D models, defining vehicle hardpoints, and ensuring seamless integration of components and systems across the entire vehicle architecture. This role combines detailed CAD design with full-vehicle packaging ownership, supporting both early-phase concept development and detailed engineering.
Area of Responsibilities
- 3D CAD Modelling — Create and maintain robust 3D models and assemblies for vehicle systems.
- Vehicle Architecture Development — Define spatial layouts for powertrain, chassis, interior, electrical, and thermal systems.
- Hardpoint Definition — Establish and manage the master hardpoint database for the vehicle.
- Occupant Packaging — Ensure ergonomic comfort, visibility, ingress/egress, and compliance with human-factors requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance — Apply global standards (FMVSS, ECE, GTR) to packaging and design decisions.
- DMU & Virtual Builds — Lead digital mock-up reviews to validate clearances, interfaces, and serviceability.
- Cross-Functional Integration — Resolve packaging conflicts across body, chassis, powertrain, interior, and electrical teams.
- Benchmarking — Analyse competitor vehicles to inform architecture and design decisions.
- Change Management — Manage CAD updates, version control, and release workflows in PLM systems.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
