The Role

Chief AI Officer, FS&GEC is the single accountable executive for translating AI into measurable value, control posture, and capability uplift across Finance, Sustainability, and Group External Comms. Reporting to the Group Chief AI Officer with dual accountability to the domain GCOO, this role sets and executes the AI roadmap, owns prioritization and value tracking, and operates within Group-wide standards for safety, evaluation, and tooling. Success means converting AI capability into commercial outcomes through AI Product Owners aligned to Value Streams while maintaining a strong control mindset, including SOX/SOC posture and strict pre-disclosure controls. You’ll act as the named regulator-facing executive for the domain and hold accountability for AI performance, including P&L, cost pool, RWA, and capital efficiency, with joint value attestation alongside the domain CFO. The role participates at ExCo level and shapes the Risk Committee narrative while representing the domain externally with clients, peers, regulators, and industry forums. You’ll also build and run a business-aligned AI capability across squads and governance to ensure disciplined, value-led deployment.

What you'll be doing

  • Own the FS&GEC AI roadmap aligned to the domain’s P&L or control and coverage outcomes with quarterly refreshes
  • Set prioritization across Value Streams and track value delivery, including productivity, revenue, risk-reduction, or coverage gains reconciled to Finance
  • Govern the domain AI control posture within Group standards for safety, evaluation, and tooling
  • Run domain AI governance in partnership with relevant 2LoD teams and the Head of AI Strategy, Governance, Risk Management & Responsible AI
  • Represent the domain with regulators as the AI competent person and produce regulator and audit-grade evidence on AI activity
  • Sign value attestation jointly with the domain CFO and own accountability for AI performance, including cost pool, RWA, and capital efficiency
  • Build business-aligned AI squads and capability across a significant team footprint and develop the internal bench
  • Gate major AI investments within the domain capital envelope to ensure disciplined, value-led deployment
  • Strengthen the operating model with clear RACI across Value Streams and promote handover from FDT pods to in-business squads
  • Own the response pattern for AI incidents within the domain to protect the bank from systemic detection or experience failures

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
