DetailThe OpportunityAn exciting permanent opportunity has arisen at Ashgrove Farm, a Buitelaar-owned, professionalcalf-rearing unit based near Wrexham.This is a modern, purpose-built rearing facility operating as part of a fully integrated supply chain,offering an excellent environment for a motivated and ambitious individual looking to build a long-term career in livestock production.The unit has capacity for up to 2,000 calves at any one time and operates to high health, welfareand performance standards.What We Can OfferHands-on experience on a state-of-the-art calf-rearing unitExposure to innovative systems and technologies used in modern livestock productionThe opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced, knowledgeable and qualified teamRegular involvement with our supply chain veterinary partnersAttendance and participation in industry-leading open days, working with key stakeholdersand progressive producersKey Responsibilities

Record Keeping Completion and upkeep of farm records Supporting trial work processes and procedures in line with pre-agreed protocols, includingvaccinations and disbudding

Milk Feeding

Carrying out daily milk feeding routines Managing feeding timings, milk feed plans and weaning procedures Calf Selection Assisting the Farm Manager with calf selection for licences and orders Progressing towards independently selecting calves when required

Health Management

Working alongside supply chain vets to implement health plans Identifying sick calves and following agreed treatment protocols Ensuring health plans are adhered to and highlighting areas for improvement

Feeding & Nutrition

Managing concentrate feeding routines Implementing ration transition protocols (e.g. cake to blend, higher to lower protein feeds) Shed Preparation & Hygiene Steam cleaning and disinfecting pens Cleaning and maintaining feeding and management equipment Preparing sheds for incoming batches of calves

General

Maintaining high standards of farm hygiene Assisting with general farm maintenance as required

Working Pattern

7:00am start 5:00pm finish (some overtime may be required)
