Cancer Navigator (Part-Time) – Band 3 (£25,760 - £27,476 per annum, pro rata, 15h/week)
About the Department
The Cancer Navigator will work within the Cancer department at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH)—a University Teaching Hospital in partnership with the University of Buckingham.
Recently expanded, the on-site radiotherapy service, linked with Oxford University Hospitals, enhances local cancer care. The radiography centre, opened in January 2025, provides advanced therapy, aligned with holistic care principles and supported by:
- Oncology specialists (doctors, nurse practitioners, advanced practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists)
- Palliative care and administration teams
MKUH is actively developing services through:
- Oak Wards Phase 2 (24-bed expansion)
- Women and Children’s Centre (opening 2030)
- Investments in diagnostics and maternity/paediatric care
About the Role
Purpose & Responsibilities
The part-time Cancer Navigator (15h/week, 3-day schedule) will:
- Assist patients, families, and carers along the cancer journey with compassionate care
- Co-ordinate across cancer teams, liaising with medical staff, nurses, and administrators
- Optimise the cancer pathway via:
- Efficient administrative support (prioritising patient access to services)
- Audit/peer reviews for service improvements
- Participation in Milton Keynes Patient Partnership Group initiatives

Key Duties
- Multidisciplinary engagement: Build relationships with MDTs (hospital staff, citizens).
- Project leadership: Work collaboratively to identify system barriers and solutions.
- Holistic support: Provide caring communication during treatment planning and care navigation.
- Draw on MKUH’s capabilities: Bridge clinical teams, carers, and patients for a seamless experience.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Essential: No formal qualifications beyond GCSE Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Preferred: Relevant refreshers or clinical pathway knowledge.
Experience
- Essential: Hospital/NHS volunteer/administrative experience, or direct patient-facing roles.
- Desirable: Working with cancer patients, interdisciplinary teams, or citizens liaison.
