About The Role
At AO, great people make great things happen. As Capability & Workforce Planning Lead, you will support the delivery of our capability and workforce planning programme.
Working with People Partners, Talent Manager, and leaders across the business, you'll use our existing capability, talent, and workforce insight to identify risks, spot opportunities, and contribute to building practical plans that strengthen capability where it matters most. Helping shape a workforce that's ready for what's next - driving organisational effectiveness, enabling capability, and identifying opportunities for process optimisation, automation, and AI adoption.
Our people are our superpower, and we’re unstoppable when we’re together! We want your ideas to flow, and what better way to make that happen than being based onsite, 5 days a week, where our culture fuels creativity, collaboration, and growth. If a £1 bet in the pub between two friends can become the UK's most trusted electrical retailer, imagine what else can be achieved when we’re together.
Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing
- Analyse existing capability assessment data to identify skills gaps, capability risks, and critical role vulnerabilities.
- Bring together capability, talent, and performance data, producing actionable insights and reporting for People Partners, Talent Manager, and Business Leaders.
- Deliver meaningful insight and recommendations that support business decisions.
- Support capability diagnostics to understand current and future workforce needs.
- Prioritise development activity based on business impact, risk, and future capability requirements.
- Identify emerging capabilities to support workforce planning, organisational design, and efficiency opportunities.
- Build capability development roadmaps at business, team, and individual levels.
- Partner with Learning & Development to create practical, scalable development solutions.
- Embed opportunities for automation, AI, and process improvement into capability and workforce plans.
- Support delivery of the wider capability programme, tracking progress, managing risks, and driving actions through to completion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
