Capital Advisory Specialist – Willis Re
Role Overview
Willis Re is seeking a commercially driven Capital Advisory Specialist to support the development and execution of capital, reinsurance, and strategic advisory solutions for insurance and reinsurance clients. This role sits at the intersection of reinsurance broking, capital markets, analytics, and client advisory, helping clients:
- Optimise risk transfer
- Strengthen balance sheets
- Access efficient sources of capital
- Respond to evolving market conditions
The successful candidate will blend technical expertise in reinsurance and insurance capital with exceptional relationship management, analytical, and execution skills. They will collaborate with broking, actuarial, analytics, consulting, and capital markets colleagues to:
- Originate opportunities
- Shape client strategies
- Deliver high-quality advisory outcomes
Key Responsibilities
- Originate, develop, and execute capital advisory and reinsurance solutions for insurers, reinsurers, and other risk-bearing entities.
- Advise clients on:
- Capital optimisation
- Risk transfer strategy
- Balance sheet efficiency
- Rating agency considerations
- Access to traditional and alternative sources of reinsurance capital
- Support the structuring, negotiation, and placement of:
- Reinsurance programs (e.g., collateralised solutions, sidecars, quota shares, excess of loss arrangements)
- Capital-efficient structures
- Partner with Willis Re broking teams to:
- Identify client needs
- Develop tailored propositions
- Deliver integrated advisory and placement solutions
- Analyse:
- Underwriting data
- Portfolio performance
- Capital requirements
- Market capacity and pricing dynamics
- Prepare high-quality deliverables, including:
- Client presentations
- Market submissions
- Pitch materials
- Financial analysis
- Transaction documentation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- Insurers
- Reinsurers
- Investors
- Capital providers
- Rating agencies
- Other market participants
- Monitor trends in:
- Reinsurance
- Insurance-linked securities
- Capital markets
- Regulatory landscape
- Translate insights into actionable client advice
- Contribute to:
- Business development initiatives
- Tenders
- Strategic reviews
- Cross-selling opportunities across Willis Re’s platform
- Ensure all advisory, placement, and documentation activities comply with:
- Internal governance
- Compliance
- Regulatory
- Quality standards

Required Skills and Experience

- Experience in:
- Reinsurance broking
- Capital advisory
- Insurance investment banking
- Insurance-linked securities (ILS)
- Actuarial consulting
- Underwriting (or closely related field)
- Strong technical understanding of:
- Reinsurance structures
- Insurance balance sheets
- Capital management
- Risk transfer economics
- Market placement processes
- Ability to interpret:
- Financial statements
- Underwriting data
- Portfolio analytics
- Loss trends
- Model outputs
- Exceptional client-facing skills, including:
- Clear communication of complex technical concepts
- Commercial storytelling
- Negotiation, relationship-building, and stakeholder management across:

Technical Proficiencies
