We have an excellent opportunity for a Capital Schemes Graduate Engineer to join our Engineering, Design and Delivery team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-time, Permanent basis.
As Capital Schemes Graduate Engineer, you will support the planning and delivery of new highways and streets across the Borough, producing high-quality engineering design deliverables using AutoCAD software including drawings, schedules, and technical reports in line with relevant UK standards such as DMRB and Manual for Streets. You will carry out site inspections, investigations and supervision for projects while liaising with designers, contractors, surveyors and other collaborators to ensure successful project delivery.
You will design and deliver capital schemes projects including bus stops, road maintenance, cycle routes, signalised crossings, footway improvements and junction realignment, alongside producing traffic management deliverables and temporary traffic regulation applications. Managing stakeholder relationships, you will coordinate advance notifications to residents and Members regarding upcoming works while contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings and supporting procurement and commercial processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Produce high quality engineering design deliverables using AutoCAD software including drawings, schedules, annotations, and supporting information.
- Technical design to relevant UK standards (DMRB, Manual for streets) as well as producing high standard professional written technical reports.
- Liaising and maintaining a good relationship with all clients, answering queries and responding to technical issues, provide support etc.
- Carry out site inspections, investigations and supervision for projects, liaising with designers and contractors to support construction works
- To produce traffic management deliverables required for the purpose of facilitating engineering tasks – including producing diversion plans and completing Temporary Traffic Regulation Order and S58 applications.
- Design and deliver capital schemes projects including but not limited to bus stops, road maintenance etc
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar
- Ability to develop competence in use of proprietary engineering programmes/software to suit specific role requirements
- Knowledge of engineering procedures, and a basic understanding of civil engineering practices.
- Strong team working to contribute to and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams
