Job Description

We have an excellent opportunity for a Capital Schemes Graduate Engineer to join our Engineering, Design and Delivery team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-time, Permanent basis.

As a Capital Schemes Graduate Engineer, you will support the planning and delivery of new highways and streets across the Borough, producing high-quality engineering design deliverables using AutoCAD software including drawings, schedules, and technical reports in line with relevant UK standards such as DMRB and Manual for Streets. You will carry out site inspections, investigations and supervision for projects while liaising with designers, contractors, surveyors, and other collaborators to ensure successful project delivery.

You will design and deliver capital schemes projects including bus stops, road maintenance, cycle routes, signalised crossings, footway improvements, and junction realignment, alongside producing traffic management deliverables and temporary traffic regulation applications. Managing stakeholder relationships, you will coordinate advance notifications to residents and Members regarding upcoming works while contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings and supporting procurement and commercial processes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated graduate engineer with a passion for highways and transport to develop their skills while making a meaningful impact on the built environment for communities across the Borough.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
