About the Business Unit: Advisory & Programme Delivery (APD)

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers project, programme & commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across our core sectors. Our end-to-end expertise spans global projects up to £20bn, combining:

  • Programme & project management
  • Project controls, scheduling, and cost management
  • Carbon lifecycle assessment and reduction
  • Infrastructure finance & management consulting
  • Digital transformation and sector-specific advisory (health, care, transportation, water, and energy)

Role Overview: Decarbonisation Project Delivery

The Decarbonisation team is seeking a Senior Carbon Analyst to support our expanding advisory team in the UK. Selected candidates will give cross-sector expertise—from infrastructure sustainability to net-zero strategy. key responsibilities include:

Project Delivery

  • Deliver full-process carbon footprinting, lifecycle assessment (LCA), and carbon management projects, ensuring alignment with national/international standards (e.g., ISO14064, PAS2060, PAS2080)
  • Advise clients on strategic policies, processes, and project design to achieve net-zero ambitions
  • Support data-driven carbon assessments with clear traceability and best-practice methodologies
  • Present findings and advisory reports to senior stakeholders and clients
  • shadow ESG initiatives in collaboration with global Mott MacDonald climate teams

  • Actively contribute to internal decarbonisation discussions within Mott MacDonald
  • Mentor more junior analysts to build their carbon expertise
  • Assist in bid development for transport, water, built environment, and energy sectors

Candidate Specifications

Essential Requirements

✅ Professional experience in carbon footprinting, LCA, or carbon management projects across construction-infrastructure, transport, or energy, including:

  • Project delivery against quality, scope, budget
  • Project performance benchmarking:
  • Knowledge of operational vs. embodied carbon methodologies
  • Legislation/compliance (UK/EU-level) and industry best practices:
  • Familiarity with major climate commitments (e.g., industry roadmaps, net-zero pledges)
  • Strategic thinking across big-picture goals and delivery details

✅ Academic qualification in:

  • Environmental science, engineering, or related disciplines
  • At least an honours degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in a relevant field

✅ Core skills:

  • Technical: Excel modelling, report writing, client presentations
  • Analytical: Strong IT competency, data curation, tools for carbon performance tracking
  • Operational: Highly organised, time management, workload prioritisation

✅ Requests behaviour:

  • Proactive, collaborative, and passionate about sustainability and decarbonisation goals
  • PAS experience liaisonable at all organisational levels (internal/external)
  • Technique with indecisive and influence—build leadership advocacy for strategy(s)

Desirable (Bonus)

  • Direct experience with net-zero planning, carbon in construction, and configuration impact assessment (EIA) workflows
  • Awareness of low-carbon materials/process innovations, circular economy (and hands-on implementation examples)
  • Skill with LCA tools: OneClick, E-Tool, SimaPro
  • Familiarity with air quality or resilience adaptation as a relevant sustainability pillar
