Carbon Analyst – Decarbonisation Team
Advisory & Programme Delivery (APD), Mott MacDonald
About the Role
Mott MacDonald’s Decarbonisation team in the UK is expanding, and we are seeking a Carbon Analyst to join our global advisory team.
As part of Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD), this role will support carbon footprinting, lifecycle assessments (LCA), and carbon management across infrastructure, built environment, energy, and transportation sectors. Collaborate with Mott MacDonald’s climate change community, contributing to decarbonisation strategy, project delivery, and net-zero policy alignment for national and international clients.
Your duties will include:
- Supporting carbon management projects from inception to execution
- Assessing project performance against ISO 14064, PAS 2060, and industry best practices
- Leading data analysis for carbon assessments (traceability & calculations)
- Providing strategic advice to clients on net-zero alignment
- Reporting & presenting findings to stakeholders
- Supporting bid submissions and capability development across carbon services
- Mentoring junior team members on carbon-based methodologies
- Project delivery against scope, quality, and budget
- Contributing to Mott MacDonald’s sustainability Consultancy community

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver carbon assessments (footprinting, LCA) across infrastructure and built environment sectors
- Engage in international projects (strategic briefings, policy alignment, net-zero frameworks)
- Work with clients, specialists, and stakeholders to improve carbon decision-making
- Support project redesigns to optimise operational and embodied carbon performance

Candidate Specifications
Essential Requirements
✅ Experience:
- 2+ years in carbon management, carbon footprinting, or LCA projects (including infrastructure) with experience meeting scope, budget, quality targets
- Strong understanding of key methodologies: ISO 14064, PAS 2060, PAS 2080, and relevant industry standards
- Proven knowledge of: construction, transportation, energy, and
carbon reduction regulations/policies - Participation in industry efforts for net-zero/low-carbon impacts
✅ Qualifications:
- Degree/postgraduate qualification (engineering, environmental science, sustainability, architecture, or related field)
✅ Core Skills:
- Excel (data crunching, pivot tables)
- Numerical analytical skills
- Strategic & tactical mindset (balancing long/short-term project needs)
- Report writing & client/team presentations
- Time management & prioritisation
- Self-motivated collaboration (team independence)
Desirable:
- Background in EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment)
- Air quality & climate change adaptation/resilience knowledge
- Familiarity with low-carbon materials/ processes (circular economy, carbon-efficient construction)
- Experience with LCA tools: SimaPro, OneClick, E-Tool
