Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and conscientious individual to join our team of cardiac physiologists. The post will be split between echocardiography and non-invasive cardiology. Your focus in adult transthoracic echocardiography will be in acquiring the skills to perform the standard minimum dataset to a high level, while your non-invasive cardiology commitment will give you an opportunity to strengthen your core skills as a cardiac physiologist in areas such as Holter analysis, exercise and pharmacological stress testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and stress echocardiography. You will be a part of making a measurable difference to echocardiography delivery across the organisation and for our cardiology patients.

We are a friendly, vibrant and diverse BSE-accredited department, collectively performing around 40,000 echocardiograms each year on all ages. Our team are involved in a wide range of specialist services including congenital and paediatric echocardiography, TOE, stress echo, and physiologist-led clinics. We pride ourselves on actively supporting continual professional development through educational and mentoring sessions, regular MDT-style teaching meetings, and supporting external course attendance.

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
