Cardiac Physiologist - BSE accredited Echocardiographer
Role Responsibilities
The role involves:
- Undertaking a range of diagnostic cardiac investigations at a highly specialist level as a Cardiac Physiologist
- Producing expert, clinically accurate reports, adhering to local and national guidelines
- Providing expert knowledge and skills in cardiac investigations, communicating results across a multidisciplinary team
- Delivering training to all relevant members of the MDT in the delivery of routine and complex cardiac investigations
- Collaborating closely with:
- Consultant cardiologists
- Clinical cardiac physiology leads
- Advanced nurse practitioners
- Other medical colleagues to provide clinical leadership and input into service development
Responsibilities extend to:
- Facilitating the efficient and effective management of resources within cardiac physiology
- Contributing to the strategic development and daily operational management of the Department
- Initiating and undertaking audit within the specialist area and working collaboratively with research departments
- Acting as a clinical role model and resource to staff
- Ensuring compliance with national clinical standards and the Trust’s strategic aims through evidence-based/best-practice care ensuring clinical excellence and optimisation of quality of care

Background:
The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks a clinically excellent BSE-accredited Echocardiographer to join one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the UK. The Trust covers four hospitals (Oxford and Banbury), and cardiac physiology operates across all sites as well as community hubs.
Job Details
We are recruiting a motivated Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist to join a supportive, dynamic, and collaborative team. Candidates must:
- Demonstrate a postgraduate level of practice via a continuous professional development portfolio
- Show evidence of leadership, mentorship, and specialist working in Cardiac Physiology
Ideal candidates will have experience working within this specialist area.
The Cardiac Physiology Department values active involvement with professional bodies. There is regular representation at council level with BSE, BHRS, and BCIS.
This department is:
- A practical assessment centre for BSE
- Involved in STP OSFA assessments for the National School of Healthcare Science
- A National School of Healthcare Science accredited training centre
