Care Assistant

About Oaklands Rest Home

Oaklands Rest Home is a family-run care home located on the edge of the New Forest. We are one of the region’s leading care homes and have won national awards for four consecutive years, including:

  • Caring UK Awards
  • Dementia Care Awards
  • Social Care Stars

We provide care services for residential, dementia, respite, and reablement. Our mission is "Our Specialty is You"—getting to know each resident as an individual, understanding their history, preferences, humour, and routines to tailor care around those details.

We employ the latest care technology, offer a vibrant activities programme, and invest heavily in our team. Many staff members have stayed with us for years, with progression opportunities from Care Assistant to Deputy Manager.

Role at a Glance

  • Job Title: Care Assistant
  • Location: Marchwood, New Forest, Hampshire (free parking on site)
  • Hours: Full-time and part-time positions available
  • Reports To: Senior Care Assistant and Registered Manager
  • DBS Check: Required (funded by Oaklands)

The Role

This is a care-focused role where small details, as well as big outcomes, matter. Your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting residents with personal care, daily routines, meals, mobility, and emotional/social well-being.
  • Observing and reporting changes in residents’ health, mood, or behaviour to the team for timely intervention.
  • Providing compassionate support, particularly to residents living with dementia.

This job is not about task completion—it’s about ensuring residents feel like they’re at home.

What You Will Do

Person-Centred Care

  • Support residents with personal care in a respectful, dignified manner.
  • Follow well-planned care plans and adapt your approaches individually.
  • Encourage independence and learn about each resident’s routines and preferences.
  • Support residents’ physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
  • Help residents feel safe, unhurried, and valued.

Dementia Care

  • Provide calm, patient, and consistent support for residents with dementia.
  • Recognise that behaviour is often communication rather than disobedience.
  • Respond effectively to distress, confusion, or changes in presentation.
  • Maintain predictable routines and familiar approaches to enhance residents’ stability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
