Care Home Liaison Nurse

Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) – Care Home Liaison Team

NHS Ayrshire and Arran

Location: Ailsa Hospital, Ayr Contract Type: Permanent (part-time: 15 hours per week, Mondays–Fridays, 9 AM–5 PM)

The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a passionate and driven Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN) to join our South Ayrshire Elderly Community Mental Health Team within a specialist Care Home Liaison Team at Ailsa Hospital, Ayr.

Key Responsibilities: You will provide critical assessments, ongoing support, and reviews for residents aged 65+ living with:

  • Organic mental health conditions
  • Functional mental health conditions
  • States of stress and distress

Your core duties include:

  • Delivering tter person-centred care aligned with best practice standards
  • Supporting resident, staff, and carers across South Ayrshire care homes
  • Facilitating professional training for care home staff on mental health recognition and interventions
  • Maintaining an efficient caseload, balancing teamwork and autonomous practice
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary partners to coordinate care effectively

What You’ll Need

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Certificate in Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) with at least 2 years of qualified practice post-registration
  • A valid UK driving licence (essential for role-related travel)

Additional Considerations:

  • Essential UK Right to Work status (self-check recommended).
  • Aptitude for?" mental health work in elderly populations and care home settings
  • Commitment to NHS Core Values (Caring, Safe, Respectful)

Training & Experience (Preferred):

  • Specialist experience in geriatric psychiatry or mental health in older adults
  • Knowledge of care Home Liaison Frameworks.

Salary & Contract Details

  • Band 3 / 4 (pro-rata for 15 hours/week)
  • Part-time working hours reduce to 36 hours (full-time equivalent) from 1 April 2026, with no loss of earnings.
