Care & Support Worker – Permanent Full-Time Role
About the Role
We are seeking a Care & Support Worker to join our team at Southern Housing on the Isle of Wight!
This is an essential role where you will work within our Green Meadows scheme in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, providing valuable care and support to a diverse group of residents, including:
- Older people and the frail elderly
- Individuals with a learning disability and autism
- Those with mental health issues
- People with complex care needs
The role operates across:
- Supported housing schemes
- Extra care schemes
- Community-based services
You will need to be flexible, ready to work evenings and weekends as required, and physically capable of moving and handling tasks. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle with business use insurance are essential, along with a successful enhanced DBS check.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Provide personalised care to residents in line with their individual care plans
- This may include some intimate personal care
- Promote independence, rights, choices, and community inclusion through effective care delivery
- Respond to emergencies by summoning professional assistance when necessary
- Adhere to Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, ensuring care plans and risk assessments remain up-to-date and tailored to each resident’s needs and preferences

Essential Requirements
- Qualifications:
- 5 GCSE passes (or equivalent Grade 9–5) in Mathematics, English, and other subjects
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Effective listening and interpersonal abilities
- Basic IT proficiency (essential for recorded care notes and admin tasks)
- Good numeracy for administrative and risk-assessment duties
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of personal boundaries in a care environment
- Understanding of CQC regulations and person-centred care principles
- Additional:
- Full, valid driving licence with access to a vehicle
- Physical ability to safely transfer and support residents during moving/handling tasks
