Careers and Employability Adviser | Part-Time (0.4 FTE) – Capital City College

Make a Meaningful Impact Behind the Scenes at Capital City College

Are you passionate about supporting young people to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures? We are seeking an experienced and motivated Careers and Employability Adviser to join our Enterprise, Employability and Careers (EEC) team as part of our student support services. Based in our Angel Centre, this role is a permanent, part-time (0.4 FTE) position.

You will assist learners across post-16 and adult education, providing personalised guidance and coordinating career education activities that facilitate progression into:

  • University
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment
  • Enterprise

About the Role

You will collaborate closely with the EEC Manager, curriculum teams, and external partners to:

  • Design and deliver a careers programme aligned with the Matrix Standard and Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Offer one-to-one support, group sessions, and lead events such as:
    • Careers fairs
    • Employer presentations
    • University visits
  • Foster employability skills and widening participation—key priorities in this role.

You will represent our service to:

  • Students
  • Employers
  • University partners

To excel in this role, you must:

  • Be comfortable speaking to groups.
  • Deliver insights to classrooms.
  • Connect with diverse student backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored one-to-one guidance aligned with individual learner needs.
  • Deliver group sessions covering:
    • Higher education pathways
    • Apprenticeships
    • Employability and enterprise
  • Support learners with:
    • Student Finance
    • Bursary applications
  • Coordinate careers events, workshops, and university visits.
  • Develop resources for student career planning (digital and print formats).
  • Engage with curriculum teams to embed careers education.
  • Support CPD for educators and professionals.
  • Monitor impact of careers education initiatives.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Values excellence and impactful service.
  • Essential qualifications:
    • Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance, OR
    • Level 4 qualification in Careers Guidance, with a commitment to Level 6.
    • Applicants without a Level 4+ recognised careers qualification will not be shortlisted.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills to build trust with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Stern understanding of post-18 pathways, including:
    • UCAS
    • Apprenticeships (including vocational routes)
  • Shows passion for making a positive difference in our college community.
