Careers and Employability Adviser – Capital City College (Capital City College Habitat)
Support young people in achieving their ambitions—become part of an inspiring Careers and Employability team at one of London’s largest further education colleges.
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Careers and Employability Adviser to join our Enterprise, Employability and Careers (EEC) team on a part-time (0.4 FTE), permanent basis at our Angel Centre.
This role will allow you to provide personalised guidance, design and deliver careers education programmes, and support learners as they progress into higher education, apprenticeships, employment, or enterprise. You’ll work closely with learners, staff, external partners, and stakeholders to create a rich, tailored careers curriculum that meets both individual needs and organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Careers Guidance & Intervention
- Provide one-to-one careers guidance, tailored to learners’ aspirations and needs
- Deliver group sessions on post-16 and post-18 pathways, including higher education (HE), apprenticeships, vocational routes, employability skills, and enterprise
- Offer personalised advice on Student Finance, bursary and funding support options
- Utilise Labour Market Information (LMI) to inform teaching and guidance decisions
Programme Delivery & Engagement
- Coordinate and facilitate careers events, including:
- Workshops
- Employer talks
- University visits
- Careers fairs
- Represent the college at external partnerships with employers, higher education institutions, and training providers
- Develop and maintain digital and print resources to support learner self-navigators of career options
Partnership & Embedded Support
- Collaborate with curriculum teams and subject specialists to embed careers education in teaching plans
- Assist with staff Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in careers guidance
- Monitor and report on impact of careers activities to inform service improvement initiatives
Core Skills & Attributes
- Confident public-speaking ability, including leading discussions, presentations, and tailored interventions in group settings
- A dynamic, inclusive approach to networking and employer engagement
- Empathy and patience for learners from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
- Witself-motivated, clear, and reliable, able to manage an even-tempered workload independently

About You
Many qualities will contribute to success in this role—but here are the key requirements:
Qualifications & Experience

Essential: A Level 6 degree-level qualification in Careers Guidance (e.g., NCFE/Prospects Award for Level 6)—or

A Level 4 qualification in Careers Guidance with a signed commitment to undertake the Level 6 qualification. Applicants without a minimum recognised Level 4 careers qualification will not progress beyond initial shortlisting.

Clear understanding of post-18 pathways, including:
- UCAS and university application processes
- Apprenticeship frameworks and funding
- Vocational qualifications (e.g., T-Levels, HNCs)
- Charity and enterprise routes
Personal Attributes
- A passionate commitment to inspiring young people to make informed choices
- Strong ability to build rapport quickly with varied ages and backgrounds
- Experience of bulk work (e.g., delivering guidance, facilitating workshops)
- Confidence presenting to groups and working with sensitive learner information
- Experience working with Labour Market Intelligence tools (if applicable)
