Caretaker – Job Share Role (15 Hours/Week, 2 Days)
Location: Bromsgrove Schools, BAM UK & Ireland Shift Pattern: 07:00–15:00 & 10:15–18:15 (Friday timings may vary weekly based on school/third-party bookings) Rate: £13.90 per hour
About the Role
Join BAM’s FM Segment as a Caretaker in a job-share role, maintaining and securing our school sites while benefiting from our family-friendly enhanced package.
Our Making Possible initiative ensures:
- Security of the site
- Lock/unlock buildings and key management
- System settings/monitoring and response to alarms
- Fire safety checks and drills
- Contractor liaison and stakeholder coordination
Responsibilities
Your core duties will include, but are not limited to:
Core Duties
- Maintaining and monitoring security systems and emergency response protocols
- Carrying out regular site inspections, identifying defects, and recording maintenance needs
- Conducting fire safety equipment checks and assisting in drills
General Upkeep & Maintenance
- Minor redecorating, plumbing repairs, and electrical/fulling adjustments (e.g., replacing fixtures, ironmongery)
- Heating and lighting system monitoring
- Coordinating clean-up/graffiti removal and external litter picking

Facility Management
- BMS system monitoring and defective issue reports
- Waste disposal and recycled collection management
- Contractor oversight (CPD inductions, performance reviews & feedback)
- Assisting with site administration (logbooks, inspection records)
Additional Responsibilities
- On-call duty when required
- Client liaison for premises-related contracts
- Assisting in safety audits/risk assessment activities
Key Requirements
- Experience: Caretaking or trade experience in a schools/educational environment preferred
- Essential Skills:
- Good numeracy/literacy (GCSE Maths/English or equivalent)
- Health & Safety knowledge (including COSHH compliance)
- Ability to work independently without supervision
- Strong ability to interact with children, adults, and contractors
- Basic ICT competency with willingness to develop specialist skills
- Personal Attributes:
- Team player and flexible mindset
- Commitment to lifelong learning and training opportunities
- DBS check will be conducted before appointment
