Caretaker - General Maintenance – Student Accommodation
Caretaker – Summer Support
Location: Towpath, Chester Salary: £17,485 per annum (pro rata) Hours: Fixed-term contract for 3 months, average of 25 hours per week, flexible hours available across 4 out of 7 days, between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM
About Student Roost
Student living is about so much more than just a room—it’s about feeling at home. As a Caretaker at Student Roost, you’ll be involved in:
- All aspects of building maintenance, including:
- Carrying out small repairs
- Escorting third-party contractors
- Compliance checks with a focus on precision
- Reporting and serving as the eyes and ears of Student Roost in delivering exceptional resident experiences
We care for both our buildings and the people within them—just as we will care for you too.
The Role
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct health & safety and compliance checks
- Carry out reactive maintenance repairs
- Perform grounds maintenance
- Oversee red decoration (if required)
- Use technologies to assist in compliance and reporting
- Tackle drainage maintenance, bin store management, and other essential tasks
- Escort and managing third-party contractors

Essential Skills & Qualities
- A people person—friendly, approachable, and great at building relationships.
- Confident in handling maintenance tasks, ensuring residents receive an exceptional experience.
- A collaborative team player who thrives in a supportive environment.
- Tech-savvy, confident in learning new systems and utilizing mobile apps for tasks.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and strong communicator.
- Comfortable adhering to safety processes and following health & safety protocols.
- Resilient—able to take on messy or challenging roles (e.g., clearing drain blockages, managing bin stores).
- Problem-solving mindset—quick thinker with a solutions-focused approach.
- Willing to receive electrical training (provided); any additional maintenance qualifications are a plus but not required.
