Caretaker Role at Student Roost

We are looking for someone to join our Roost on a full-time permanent basis, with the successful candidate working 5 days out of 7 between 8am & 6pm. Our new Caretaker will become a key part of our existing, friendly and experienced property team at our Nottingham Two and Deakins Place property in Nottingham.

Hours: 37.5 Hours

Salary: £26,228.48 per annum

Are you someone who prides themselves on ensuring an environment is not only safe, but the best it can possibly be? Our Caretakers are just that: individuals who take care of our buildings, providing not only safe spaces for our residents and team members, but also going over and above to keep our buildings well-maintained and looking fantastic.

As a Caretaker at Student Roost, you are involved in all aspects of building maintenance, from carrying out small repairs to escorting third-party contractors to any issues within your building. You will also take the lead on compliance checks with your keen eye for detail and precise reporting skills. And just as you care for our buildings and the people within them, we’ll take care of you.

Think you’re the right fit for this role? We hope so too.

You’ll Be Someone We Can Count On To

OWN

  • You will be the engine room of the property, working alongside the team and responding to urgent maintenance issues with confidence. Even if you cannot fix the problem, you can report it swiftly.
  • Every student is different and so are the teams that work in our properties. Don’t leave your personality at the door and please bring your whole self to work – it’s this ‘you’ we want to see every day.
  • We never walk past a problem and you will take pride in the day-to-day maintenance of the property, with a strong focus on customer service, attention to detail and a respectful approach that comes with working in someone’s home.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The ‘us’ part

So you know what we’re looking for, but what are you looking for from your next employer? Sure, Student Roost has a portfolio of purpose-built student accommodation properties across the UK – but more than that, Student Roost is its people.

While we strive to put our residents first, our people also include those at the heart of what we do: the property teams, Night Owls, support staff, HQ teams and more who help to keep ours a 24/7/365-day home away from home for everyone who chooses to live with us. We ask that you seek to make a difference every day you show up, and in return we’ll show up for you by rewarding what’s right, supporting you in your career growth and aspirations, and championing the unique qualities and ideas that only you can bring to the business.

Simply put: you do you, so we grow together.

Psst… there are some challenges too

  • There is a lot of statutory compliance jobs with this role, to make sure we are keeping our residents safe, so sometimes it might feel a little repetitive.
  • Summer turnaround: This is when our residents leave us and it’s the busiest time in our calendar. It can involve clearing out residents’ rooms, supporting with higher than usual levels of maintenance, and just generally helping out.

Please note that as part of our safety first culture – this role is subject to requiring a Basic DBS check as part of our pre-employment checks.
