Caretaker Role
Role: Caretaker / Handyman (Full Time Permanent)
About the Role
Contract: 38 hours per week, starting at £27,368 per annum
Location: Various (Must hold a full, clean UK driving licence) Company van provided
Outward, a 50-year-old organisation, provides high-quality support and care services across London’s North and East boroughs. Originally founded by families looking for alternatives to institutional care, we now support over 1,000 vulnerable individuals, including those with learning disabilities, autism, mental health challenges, and complex needs.
Our Supported Housing Department delivers intensive housing management in partnership with housing providers—primarily Newlon Housing Trust—ensuring our residents' stable tenancies are sustained.
Now, we’re recruiting a motivated Caretaker/Handyman to join our central caretaking team.Ideal candidates will show enthusiasm, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to ensuring safe living environments for our residents.

Key Responsibilities
- Providing a first-class caretaker service, ensuring all properties are safe, clean, and well-maintained
- Managing and planning your schedule efficiently while adapting to evolving priorities
- Conducting regular health & safety inspections—including property checks and necessary record-keeping
- Ocean planting light DIY and maintenance tasks
- Plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting
- Use of hand tools and light machinery
- Supporting Outward’s older adult services
- Completing essential training and health & safety compliance

- Representing Outward and ensuring a positive experience for residents

Requirements
Essential
- Right to work in the UK (No visa sponsorship offered)
- Full, unmedled clean U.K. Driving Licence
- Mobile phone access (capable of receiving SMS codes and installing authentication apps for secure systems)
- Ability to work independently and alone with vulnerable adults
- Strong ability to manage time effectively
- Prior year of maintenance, caretaking, or related experience
- At examing work (e.g., camaraderie at 49 years, awareness of hand tools)
No prior experience?This what is needed.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a similar residential or healthcare-based setting
- IT literacy—logging maintenance issues or using facility management software
- Health & Safety training (COSHH, risk assessments, etc.)
Expected Work Environment
- Requires frequent travel across multiple sites
- Open fixed hours with adaptability to unexpected requests
- A disability support conscious environment.
