About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Carpenter & Joiner to join our facilities maintenance team at HMP Manchester. This is a secure, long-term role with the Ministry of Justice.
Key Responsibilities
- General carpentry and joinery maintenance
- Repairs to doors, windows, formwork, signage and bespoke timber items
- Running and maintaining the joinery workshop --Measuring jobs, quoting works, and ordering materials
- Managing workshop equipment, inspections, and housekeeping

Hours & Working Pattern
- Rota-based schedule:
- Saturday–Thursday: 08:00–17:00
- Friday: 08:00–16:00
- 1 in 4 weekends off (paid at a 15% shift allowance)

Requirements
We’re looking for a self-motivated Carpenter & Joiner with:
- NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (NVQ Level 2 with experience considered)
- Maintenance/facilities experience preferred
- Confidence using hand tools, ladders, and workshop machinery
- Reliable, organised, and safety-focused attitude
