About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Carpenter & Joiner to join our facilities maintenance team at HMP Manchester. This is a secure, long-term role with the Ministry of Justice.

Key Responsibilities

  • General carpentry and joinery maintenance
  • Repairs to doors, windows, formwork, signage and bespoke timber items
  • Running and maintaining the joinery workshop --Measuring jobs, quoting works, and ordering materials
  • Managing workshop equipment, inspections, and housekeeping

Hours & Working Pattern

  • Rota-based schedule:
    • Saturday–Thursday: 08:00–17:00
    • Friday: 08:00–16:00
  • 1 in 4 weekends off (paid at a 15% shift allowance)

Requirements

We’re looking for a self-motivated Carpenter & Joiner with:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (NVQ Level 2 with experience considered)
  • Maintenance/facilities experience preferred
  • Confidence using hand tools, ladders, and workshop machinery
  • Reliable, organised, and safety-focused attitude
