Salary: £30,866 – £36,135 + 15% shift allowance Hours: 39 per week
We’re recruiting an experienced Carpenter & Joiner to join the facilities maintenance team at HMP Manchester. This is a secure, permanent role on a long-term Ministry of Justice contract.
The Role
- General carpentry and joinery maintenance
- Repairs to doors, windows, formwork, signage and bespoke timber items
- Running and maintaining the joinery workshop
- Measuring jobs, quoting works and ordering materials
- Managing workshop equipment, inspections and housekeeping
Hours & Working Pattern
- 39 hours per week
- Rota-based:
- Saturday–Thursday: 08:00–17:00
- Friday: 08:00–16:00
- 1 in 4 weekends (paid with 15% shift allowance)

What You’ll Need
- NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (NVQ Level 2 considered with relevant experience)
- Maintenance or facilities experience
- Confident with hand tools, ladders and workshop equipment
- Reliable, organised and safety-focused
