Case Officer

Case Officer, Dorset Hampshire and Isle of Wight

Location: Homebased, with regular travel within the region Contract Type: Permanent Hours: Full time (35 hours per week) Salary: £29,170 per annum

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Case Officer to join our South West casework team, supporting Royal British Legion (RBL) beneficiaries across Dorset, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. This role involves providing direct support, advice, and guidance on a wide range of issues, including:

  • Health
  • Social care
  • Employment
  • Benefits
  • Statutory support
  • Housing

Our Casework Services team plays a crucial role in helping the Armed Forces community lead better, more fulfilling lives. Annually, we support over 12,000 people in the UK and abroad. Together with RBL’s wider network, the team ensures beneficiaries receive tailored support, regardless of their circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

As a Case Officer, you will report to the Area Casework Services Manager and fulfill the following core duties:

  • Manage and deliver casework support, including:
    • Providing direct, person-centred advice and guidance to beneficiaries
    • Assessing each individual’s needs and coordinating integrated support from regional specialists and external providers
    • Ensuring seamless delivery of solutions by liaising with welfare partners, local services, and RBL’s own teams (e.g., Specialist Service teams, Recovery team, Branch Community Support, care homes, and Remembrance Services)

  • Support strategic decision-making by:

    • Collaborating with the Casework Services Manager and Head of Welfare to better understand regional beneficiaries’ needs
    • Helping commission specialist services to improve future support offerings
  • Advocate and enable access to available support, including:

    • Informing beneficiaries about available welfare benefits and services
    • Assisting them in accessing these resources efficiently
  • Build local partnerships by:

    • Developing strong working relationships with other welfare providers, community groups, and charitable organisations to optimise referrals and support coordination
  • Work remotely and on-the-go:

    • Travel within Dorset, Hampshire, and Isle of Wight for beneficiary visits and meetings
    • Occasional national travel for training and regional meetings

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Valid UK driving licence (essential for travel-based responsibilities)
  • Commitment to delivering person-centred, high-quality support
  • Capacity to work flexibly within a team, collaborating effectively
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusted relationships

Desirable

  • Past experience working with vulnerable individuals
  • familiarity with Armed Forces-associated issues
  • familiarity with benefits advice systems or social welfare structures
  • Interest in continuing professional development in welfare casework
