The Role
We are seeking a Casework Support Officer to provide admin, organisation, and logistics support to our leading Marks & Traces (M&T) Team at our Tamworth site. The M&T team examines and analyses critical forensic evidence such as:
- Glass & Paint
- Gunshot Residue (GSR)
- Ignitable Liquids & Fire Investigations
- Fibres & Noxious Substances
- Footwear & Marks Comparisons
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-impact forensic team, where your support will directly assist in investigations that secure justice. As a Casework Support Officer, your role will be central to the smooth operation of the M&T team, from ensuring exhibit security to case documentation and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Core Support Functions
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Marks & Traces (M&T) team, maintaining daily operational efficiency.
- Enter accurate and timely data into case management systems, spreadsheets, and internal databases.
- Coordinate the secure movement, booking, storage, return, and destruction of forensic exhibits while maintaining full chain of custody.
- Assist with case file preparation, including invoice processing, pagination, and handling customer/defence queries.
- Arrange travel, meetings, and visitor access, acting as the primary point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee stock control, including ordering, replenishment, and monitoring of consumables and lab supplies.
- Assist with scheduled maintenance requests for lab equipment and liaise with external contractors where necessary.
- Support environmental compliance, including daily cleaning checks and monitoring when required.
- Undertake standard office administrative duties, such as filing, mail distribution, greeting visitors and security checks.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essentials
- Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) is essential.
- Motivation, enthusiasm, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrable ** organisational skills** and ability to prioritise competing tasks.
- A proactive approach to resolving operational and logistical challenges.
Desirable
- Previous experience in administrative, logistics, or evidence-handling environments (e.g., laboratories, police evidenced rooms, or custody departments).
- Understanding of chain of custody processes, secure documentation, and regulated work environments.
- Experience working in ISO-accredited or compliance-sensitive settings.
- Familiarity with forensic terminology or rate-setting procedures will be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Security Clearance Requirement
Due to the sensitive handling of police and legal data, this role requires NPPV3+ Security Clearance. To proceed, candidates must:
- Hold 5+ years of continuous UK residency.
- Undergo police vetting; this includes criminal record checks, financial assessments, and vetting of family ties to ensure suitability.
- Be prepared for:
- Drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment & ongoing).
- Full disclosure of work history, financials, associations, and judgements/rulings.
- Regular reassessment of clearance during employment.

- Vetting is conducted by an external police service. Honesty at every stage is essential to securing clearance.
- Prior involvement with firearm usage or ammunition (including clay pigeon shooting, airsoft, or commercial tools like nail guns) is critical information and must be disclosed during application. Staff will need to meet additional on-site precaution measures before entry.
