Caseworker
Support Caseworker – Part Time (Fixed Term, 12 Months) 📍 Birmingham, West Midlands
Adavu, a Birmingham-based charity supporting adult survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking, is seeking a part-time Support Caseworker to join our small, values-led team.
About Adavu
We provide trauma-informed casework, advocacy, and practical support to survivors—helping them rebuild safety, stability, independence, and confidence. Our work covers:
- Housing, benefits, and financial wellbeing
- Health, safety, and legal/immigration processes
- Trauma recovery and redundancy forms
- Trust and community connection

The Role
You’ll deliver trauma-informed casework and practical advocacy to adult survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking. Key responsibilities include:
- Hold and manage a caseload of survivors, identifying support needs.
- Assist clients with:
- Housing stability
- Benefits eligibility
- Financial wellbeing (budgeting, debt advice)
- Health and welfare schemes
- Safety placements and risk mitigation
- Appointment management with statutory, voluntary, and specialist services.
- Complete needs assessments and develop bespoke support plans, aligned with survivor strengths and restraints.
- Maintain accurate, confidential and GDPR-compliant case records.
- Liaise with the Casework Manager, Director, colleagues, volunteers, and partner agencies.
- Monitor safeguarding risks, requiring instigation, and escalate concerns.
- Support encrusted career transitions for clients, including Into Work Volunteering.
- Coordinate with statutory services (e.g. NOWRS/UKRF) and external stakeholders.

Key Commitments
This role combines essentials with long-term solutions in line with survivor priorities. You’ll collaborate with practitioners, legal, safeguarding, and industry experts to offer flexible, high-quality support.
Role Details
Hours: 16/week (potential increase to 20 hours if funding/need arises); flexible Tuesday scheduled. Location: Office-based at Balsall Heath, Birmingham + travel across West Midlands. Start Date: 10 July 2026*.
Salary:
- FTE: £28,304.58 → £12,076.62 for 16 hours (@ £14.52/hour). Term: 12-month fixed term (extension subject to funding).
Closing Date: 15 July 2026, 5pm → Interviews on Tuesday 21 July 2026.
*Note: Funding & role funding be adjusted for 100% travel grant per annum for appropriate WorkSessions/Factionals.
Requirements
Essential Experience & Skills
- GCSE-level education (Maths, English or equivalents).
- Experience akin to supporting vulnerable/marginalised groups.
- Skills to manage client caseloads with sensitivity.
- Proficiency collaborating with voluntary, statutory, or specialist support sectors.
- Strong advocacy and communication skills.
- Ability to:
- Assess needs and risks.
- Design tailored support plans.
- Maintain fleeting case records.
- Work within safeguarding frameworks and confidentiality/dignity protocols.

Desirable Experience
- Qualifications in social care, advocacy, mental health, or safeguarding.
- Experience aiding survivors of modern slavery, human trafficking, or related vulnerabilities (e.g. domestic abuse, homelessness).
- Knowledge of:
- The National Referral Mechanism (NRM).
- Local child/accommodation services.
- Support routes for non-native English speakers.
- First language not English aid (helpful).
- Full valid driving licence and access to a work-insured vehicle.
