The Department of Management and Marketing
The Department of Management and Marketing are currently recruiting for PhD student teachers for the academic year 2026/27.
PhD students - have you considered teaching during your Doctorate?
Teaching during your PhD is a useful extracurricular activity that allows you to broaden your horizons by putting your knowledge into practice in a new environment.
You will be fully supported in your new role. A comprehensive induction is provided; your duties will be allocated according to your specialism; and we will work with you to ensure that your teaching workload is manageable. Most importantly, we acknowledge that your studies remain your primary focus: you will be appointed a mentor to engage with you regularly to ensure that your learning remains on course. In order for you to plan this into your study, teaching allocations will be made in advance and whilst subject to slight adjustments until final student numbers are known, will normally be between 100-150 hours.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
