Support Worker (Adults with Disabilities) – West Lancashire District

Salary: £13.45 per hour Hours: Casual (enhanced payments for weekend/bank holidays and sleep-in shifts) Location: West Lancashire District, Adult Disability Domiciliary Service


About the Role

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of adults with disabilities? We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible individuals who are committed to supporting people with learning disabilities to live fulfilling lives in their own homes—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Key Responsibilities

As a Support Worker, you will provide holistic assistance to ensure clients live with dignity, independence, and happiness. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with personal care, laundry, mealtime preparation, and household tasks
  • Supporting financial management, medication administration, and health-related needs
  • Encouraging participation in community activities and social experiences
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance while promoting positive behavioural outcomes
  • Developing a person-centred approach—focusing on the client’s preferences, goals, and well-being

This role requires compassion, patience, adaptability, and an unconditional valuing of others. You will act as a trusted advocate for those you support, ensuring their rights and choices are always respected.

Requirements

Person Specification

  • Person-Centred Mindset: A strong belief in empowering individuals to lead their own lives with dignity and independence.
  • Flexibility & Resilience: Willingness to work casual hours, including weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in shifts.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, empathetic, and professional verbal/written skills to liaise with clients, families, and senior staff.
  • Discretion & Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive information in a properly ethical manner.
  • DBS Check: Willingness to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the recruitment process (compulsory under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act).
  • Teamwork: A collaborative approach to working with colleagues, managers, and external partners.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or physical impairments
  • Training in person-centred care, health support, or mentoring
  • Familiarity with medication administration or first aid
