Position: Casual Crematorium Assistant

Location: Oxford Crematorium

Job Type: Casual, Hourly Contract (Hours flexible based on business needs)

Salary: £13.12 per hour

We are seeking a Casual Crematorium Assistant to join our team at Oxford Crematorium. This versatile role covers all aspects of crematorium operations, from supporting chapel services to maintaining grounds and handling administrative duties.

As a Crematorium Assistant – Level 1, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our services run smoothly, our grounds remain beautifully maintained, and our clients are treated with care and compassion.


The Role

As a Crematorium Assistant, you will provide multi-skilled support across the crematorium, ensuring professional services, well-maintained grounds, and efficient administrative processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support chapel services, including:
    • Setting up seating
    • Audio/visual equipment
    • Greeting families
  • Assist with witness interments or ashes scatterings, with sensitivity and respect
  • Maintain crematorium grounds and memorial areas, ensuring cleanliness and presentation
  • Support families with memorial enquiries, providing compassionate guidance
  • Manage service bookings, maintain accurate records, and handle invoicing
  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries with professionalism
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including correct use of PPE and reporting hazards

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Strong interpersonal skills who communicates empathetic support with families
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual tasks, including grounds maintenance
  • Comfortable using basic IT systems for bookings and administrative tasks
  • Preference for experience in customer-facing roles (hospitality, care, retail, bereavement)
  • Eagerness to learn and adaptability to a multi-skilled role
