The Purpose
The main responsibility is to work within the multi-disciplinary Wellbeing, Medical, Physical Performance team, providing support services to girls at Manchester United’s Girls Academy (U11s to U15s). You will help deliver psychological welfare support to ensure players thrive within the club environment.
Principal Accountabilities
Generic
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely, fairly, effectively, and efficiently.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding the welfare of children and adults at risk.
Specific
- Deliver tailored wellbeing programmes for players, staff, and stakeholders in alignment with club values.
- Identify and support individuals at risk, providing early intervention and referrals to specialist services.
- Ensure all wellbeing activities comply with safeguarding policies, GDPR, and club guidelines.
- Build partnerships with internal departments and external agencies to deliver holistic support services.
- Monitor wellbeing outcomes through data and feedback, driving continuous improvement.
- Support life skills, education, and post-football transition planning for current and former players.
- Provide on-site wellbeing support during training, managing any incidents professionally and sensitively.
- Lead wellbeing awareness initiatives to foster a supportive club environment.
- Collect relevant data, information, and evidence of good practice to meet funding conditions.
- Uphold and promote the Foundation’s Safeguarding policy, working closely with Manchester United’s Safeguarding team and partner leads.

Experience
- Experience in working and supporting young people in a wellbeing/psychological capacity.
- Experience in a supportive role with young people.
Knowledge
- Understanding of child development.
- Knowledge of child protection issues and safeguarding best practices/legislation.

- Exceptional organisational and communication skills (written, verbal, and listening).
- Ability to build trusting relationships with children, young people, and parents.
- Empathy and emotional awareness.
- Strong ability to enthuse and communicate effectively with diverse age groups and backgrounds.
- Self-driven with energy and enthusiasm to contribute to the team.
- Excellent organisational skills.
Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant qualification in psychology, counselling, mental health, social work, youth work, or a related field.
- Experience working with:
- Young people and/or vulnerable adults in wellbeing, education, or support settings.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish trusted relationships across age groups and backgrounds.
- Ability to manage confidential data, write reports, and monitor outcomes.

Desirable
- FA Safeguarding Children certificate.
- Any additional relevant qualifications/certifications.
- Training in:
- Mental Health First Aid.
- Trauma-informed practice (to enhance crisis response skills).
- Knowledge of elite/academy sporting environments and the pressures of high-performance settings.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., collaboration with coaches, physiotherapists, and performance staff).
