About The Role

We have an opportunity for a Kitchen Assistant to join our busy catering team at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre.
You will be working as part of our kitchen team preparing and presenting food to order in a fast-paced environment. Cooking seasonal menus for our visitors to enjoy and ensuring everyone in the team follows our food safety management system. If you have a love of food, enjoy the satisfaction of a fast-paced job done well, and an interest in developing new skills in the catering industry, this could well be the job for you.

This is a casual position, therefore, hours are offered and worked on an ad-hoc basis as and when required to include weekends and bank holidays. Shifts will typically be 9am to 5pm although we will occasionally offer evening shifts for special events. Whilst you will be primarily based in our kitchen, you will also have the opportunity to carry out other tasks required in the restaurant, from serving customers to restocking shelves. Any necessary training will be provided to bring you up to speed with how we do things.
When visiting our website, you will notice the position is referred to as Trading Assistant. This is how the role is referred to internally at WWT as it covers several possible locations within our trading team.
About You
To join as our Kitchen Assistant you’ll ideally have:
- Some previous experience of working in a commercial kitchen
- A passion for food and pride in presentation
- Some knowledge of food safety management systems
- The ability to think outside of the ‘pond’ and a commitment to going the extra mile
- Flexibility to adapt and cover a variety of different tasks as required.
