Casual Support Worker / Driver required

Hours and Sleepovers: As and when required to cover other staff annual leave and holiday.

Cover is normally a 24hr shift.

Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour, for all hours worked.

Previous experience or training in working with young adults with extra support needs is essential, being a driver, with a clean driver's licence is also essential.

Duties

To assist with the socializing of a young man of 29 who has a placid nature who has extra support needs, this will include taking the young person out in his own car to various activities.

Other duties will include assisting with personal care as required and administering and keeping medication records.

The young man has mobility, but at times uses a wheelchair.

The young man lives in his own tenancy in Dundonald with a Support Team. It is important to recognize that the care you are employed to assist with will be provided within his home, therefore confidentiality and respect for his privacy and daily routine is of the utmost importance.

Personal Tasks

The tasks you may be required to do will vary, according to the needs of the young man and will include the following:

  • Assistance/ Reminding me to take my medication
  • Help with showering, bathing, drying myself
  • Assistance using the toilet – this may include changing pads.
  • Assistance with eating, drinking – cutting up my food — The young man has a soft diet and will require some foods to be liquidised.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

  • Assistance with shaving, dressing, oral hygiene, foot care, drying, styling hair

HOUSEHOLD TASKS: To be completed for the person you are employed to assist.

These will be completed on a regular basis throughout the week or when needed:

  • Cooking and preparing a meal, sandwich, drink for the young man
  • My dietary requirements are that I require some foods liquidised and that I am severely allergic to any foods that contain eggs. (I have an Epi Pen for emergencies, training will be given)
  • Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, mopping floors
  • Household cleaning, which will include the bathroom, bedroom, etc
  • My laundry, ironing
  • Changing my bedding / changing bedding in the staff room
  • Dusting, hoovering

GENERAL TASKS: Done as and when required

  • Going to the local shops / assisting me with my shopping
  • Reporting any faults with any equipment used to my family
  • Light household maintenance e.g. changing a light bulb using the appropriate equipment e.g. ladders.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES / OUTINGS: You may be required to assist me

  • When going to the cinema/theatre / going swimming
  • Disco on a Monday night / Wed various clubs
  • Going to appointments / going to the shops
  • Meeting friends/family
  • Assisting with leisure activities, going out in the evenings
  • Going for a walk
  • Driving — STAFF will require a full clean driving licence

Wages are paid 4 weekly in arrears, by BACS Transfer.

This Job Description is set around the young man's needs as is the rota and either may change in the future according to his support needs.

There is a 6-month probationary period attached to the post, with a 1-week notice within this period if things are not working out.

The successful applicants will be required to undergo the New PVG Disclosure, or update Disclosure, the employer will pay the fee of £18 / £59, but if you leave the employment within the 6-month probationary period the employer reserves the right to recoup this cost from your wages.

If successful, a copy of your driving licence and car insurance (including business insurance) may be required, if using your own car.

Two up-to-date reference contacts are required, one of which must be from a present or most recent employer.
